Thales of Miletus

Who was he?

  • We know very little about the precise dates and time in which Thales of Miletus lived.
  • He is widely considered to be the first Western Philosopher/Scientist.
  • With an estimated lifespan between the years 624-546 BC, Thales is now valued for his contributions to thought more highly than the details of his mortal existence.
  • As the first thinker in the Western tradition to break from the use of mythology, pantheons and the supernatural to answer metaphysical questions, Thales now serves as a beacon pointing us to the very heart of the Philosophical Endeavor. The pursuit of wisdom and truth.
